THE METHODIST CHURCH CHESTERFIELD CIRCUIT

Circuit Policy Mission statement:

The calling of the Methodist people of Chesterfield is to respond to the gospel of God's love in Jesus Christ and, inspired by the Holy Spirit, to live out their discipleship in worship and mission.

PRIMARY AIM OF THIS CIRCUIT

This Circuit's role is:

  • To increase awareness of God's presence and celebrate God's love (Worship);
  • To help people grow and learn as Christians through mutual support and care (Learning and Caring);
  • To be a good neighbour to people in need and to challenge injustice (Service);
  • To make more followers of Jesus Christ (Evangelism) and will deploy its resources (people, money, buildings) effectively to achieve these purposes.

This policy was approved by the Circuit Meeting on 24 June 2008 together with the following objectives:

1. WORSHIP

To increase awareness of God's presence and celebrate God's love, the Circuit will develop a varied programme of services and events both on Sundays and on other days to meet the needs of existing worshippers of all ages, and to attract newcomers.

2. LEARNING AND CARING

To help people grow and learn as Christians through mutual support and care, the Church will:
  • Nurture the faith of all ages
  • Encourage growth in discipleship (including prayer and Bible study) and also in spirituality
  • Provide training in making moral choices and engaging in social action as well as in faith sharing
  • Put in place an effective system of pastoral care for existing members and for those on the fringes.

3. SERVICE

To be a good neighbor to people in need and to challenge injustice, the Circuit will:
  • Encourage engagement with the community and with the world
  • Support work for justice and peace, and for the relief of need locally, nationally and internationally.
  • Witness to Christian values in society
  • Reach out to those neglected or forgotten

4. EVANGELISM

To make more followers of Jesus Christ, the Circuit will:
  • Communicate the Gospel effectively to our community
  • "fresh expressions of church"
  • Promote activities designed to bring all ages to commitment to Christ

5. RESOURCES

To release resources to achieve these aims the Circuit will:
  • Concentrate resources on the above core priorities
  • Give priority to new initiatives in mission at the expense of maintaining existing activities
  • Simplify structures
  • Promote partnerships with other churches (both Methodist and other denominations) and other groups with shared or similar aims to our own.
